WHY ARE WE PENTECOSTALS?

Pentecost was one of the three great festivals of the people of Israel, marking the end of the spring harvest. It was called Pentecost, a word that means fifty, because it took place fifty days after the Feast of the First Fruits. That Feast of Pentecost, which was celebrated fifty days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ, has a very special meaning, since it was the day the Church was born, something happened that had never happened before: a multitude of people began to speak in different languages. different from the ones they talked about; Scripture says that about three thousand souls received the Word of God.

Today many say they are Pentecostals because they speak in other tongues, but being Pentecostal is not just speaking in tongues; That glorious day the apostle Peter, filled with the Spirit of God, said: <<Repent, and let each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit>>.

THE ONLY TRUE GOD

We believe in the one living, eternal God, infinite in power, Holy in nature, attributes, and purpose; that he possesses absolute and indivisible deity. This one true God has revealed Himself as Father; as a son in redemption; and as the Holy Spirit by emanation (1 Corinthians 8:6; Ephesians 4:6; 2 Corinthians 5:19: Joel 2:28). The Scriptures do more than attempt to prove the existence of God: they affirm, assume, and declare that knowledge of God is universal. (Romans 1:19, 21, 28, 32: 2:15) God is invisible Incorporeal, without parts, without a body and therefore without any limitation. He is Spirit (John 4:24) a spirit has no flesh and bones" (Luke 24:39).

The first commandment of all is: "Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord" (Mark 12:29; Deuteronomy 6:4). "One God and Father of all, who is over all and by all and in all" (Ephesians 4:6). The one true God manifested Himself in various ways in the Old Testament, In the Son while He was among men, as the Holy Spirit after the ascension.

THE SON OF GOD

The only true God, the Jehovah of the Old Testament, took on himself the form of man, and as the Son of man, he was born of the virgin Mary. Paul says, "And without question great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, Preached to the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up into glory" (1 Timothy 3 :16). "He came to his own, and his own received him not" (John 1:11). The only true God was manifested in the flesh, that is, in his Son his Son Jesus Christ his. "...God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their sins against men..." (2 Corinthians 5:19).
We believe that in Him (ie, Jesus Christ) dwells bodily all the fullness of the Godhead (Colossians 2:9). "Because it pleased the Father that all fullness should dwell in him" (Colossians 1:19). Therefore, Jesus Christ in his humanity was man; in the Deity of him was and is God. His meat was the lamb, or God's sacrifice. He is the only mediator between God and man. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). Jesus Christ, on his Father's side, was divine; on his mother's side, he was human. Thus, He was known as the Son of God and also as the Son of man, or the God-man. "For I subject all things under his feet." And when he says that all things have been subjected to Him, clearly the one who subjected all things to Him is clearly excepted.

THE NAME OF GOD

God is known as “Elohim”, “God”, “Almighty God”, “El Shaddai”, “Jehovah”, and especially “Jehovah, the Lord”, the Redeeming Name in the Old Testament. “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us, and the principality is on his shoulder; and his name will be called, Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace ”(Isaiah 9: 6). This prophecy of Isaiah was fulfilled when the Son of God was prophesied: "And she shall bear a son, and you shall call his name JESUS, for he shall save his people from his sins" (Matthew 1:21). . “And in no other is there salvation; for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:11,12).

DEATH AND RESURRECTION OF THE LORD JESUS

The redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ has its culminating moment with his death and resurrection. Jesus paid the price of our salvation by giving his life for us, his shed blood is the only thing that can cleanse the sin of humanity.

The word of God teaches that Christ rose from the dead, "...and if Christ raised us, our faith is vain" (1 Corinthians 15:13,14). The Lord himself announced his resurrection, when he said: "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up" (John 2:19; 10:18).

THE GOSPEL

They are the Good News of salvation, manifested through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). This Good News comes from heaven and was promised in the Holy Scriptures (Romans 1:1,2). The Lord Jesus Christ was the first to announce the Gospel, the Scripture says: “…Jesus came to Galilee preaching the Gospel of the kingdom of God, saying: The time has come, the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the Gospel” (Mark 1:14,15).
Its content is glorious, the apostle Paul calls it "The unsearchable riches of Christ" (Ephesians 3:8), and wrote in one of his pastoral letters: "...the grace that was given us in Christ Jesus before the time of the centuries, but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who abolished death and brought immortality to life through the gospel" (2 Timothy 1:9-10).

CHURCH

The church is made up of all those who believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and obey his commandments, these make up the body of Christ here on earth (Ephesians 5:23; 1 Corinthians 12:27).
The Lord Jesus speaking with the apostle Peter told him: “…On this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). In the city of Jerusalem, on the day of Pentecost, ten days after the ascension of the Lord, the disciples of Jesus were assembled and were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and those who believed in the Lord that day were baptized in the name of the Lord. Jesus Christ…” With this event the Lord's church began, as a true community of faith (Acts 2:38-42; 1Timothy 3:15).

REPENTANCE AND CONVERSION

Genuine repentance is the act of turning to God, recognizing oneself as a sinner (Isaiah 55:7; 1 John 1:8,9), as a result of this comes conversion, in which the person becomes a new creature, participating in the nature of God (Acts 3:19; 2 Corinthians 5:17).
John the Baptist preached repentance, Jesus exhorted the people to repent, Mark 1:15. Luke 24:47 says: "...that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his Name among all nations, beginning from Jerusalem." The apostles insisted on this, both to Jews and Gentiles (Acts 2:38; 11:18; 17:30).
The word "repentance" comes from several Greek words meaning change of views and purpose, change of heart, change of attitude, change of life, transformation, and change of mind. Jesus said, “…unless you repent, you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3).

WATER BAPTISM IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

The biblical way of baptism is by immersion, and it is only for those who have repented, having turned from their sins. It must be administered by a duly authorized minister of the gospel and in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Acts of the Apostles 2:38; 8:16; 10:48 a.m.; 7:15 p.m.; 22:16, thus obeying and fulfilling Matthew 28:19.

BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

John the Baptist said “…He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire” (Matthew 3:11). The Lord Jesus Christ declared: “…you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now” (Acts 1:5).
The Holy Spirit is evidenced by the experience of speaking in other languages, according to the Holy Spirit that is spoken. “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them to speak” (Acts 2:4); thus fulfilling Joel's prophecy regarding the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (Joel 2:28).
Peter, explaining this experience, said: "... having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out what you see and hear (Acts 2:33), "... For the promise is for you, and for your children, for as many as the Lord our God will call” (Acts 2:39).

SANCTITY OF LIFE

A holy life should characterize every child of God. We must live according to the example given in the Holy Scriptures (Thessalonians 5:23). The writer to the Hebrews exhorts us: “Follow peace with all and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).
